REPORT + PHOTOS [Hilton Head Island, SC – Nov. 8, 2016] If you were lucky enough to grab a ticket to the inaugural Vintage Auto Film Exhibition at Coligny Theatre November 3rd you were treated to a fabulous evening of automotive cinema that kicked off the Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance weekend.
Car aficionados and film buffs savored complimentary hor’derves by Magnolia Grill Catering before heading into the theater where the audience enjoyed three films including short film ‘Climb Dance’, the short documentary ‘The Red Grifo’ and feature documentary ‘Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman.’ (Film summaries + trailers click here).
“Of course we are excited with the turn out for our inaugural event – coming less than 4 weeks after hurricane Matthew hit our region – so a big thank you to everyone who came out and of course our sponsors who made the evening possible.” For event coordinator Guy Smith the highlight was seeing the audience’s reaction to the films, “People kept saying how impressed they were with the films, which is great to hear as I directed one of them!” (The Red Grifo)
A portion of the event’s proceeds are being donated to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry’s Disaster Recovery and Rebuilding Fund to help support hurricane Matthew relief efforts.
Since the proceeds were for charity the venue requested rather than pay a rental fee that the event instead direct those funds to the donation. “We want to thank Guy Smith for hosting this event at Coligny Theatre! We proudly support the Concours d’Elegance and the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. They are both great assets for the area.” Chris Young, the Richardson Group (owners of Coligny Theatre).
The event partners The Carriage Shop, The Thunderbird Inn, and Southern Lifestyle Properties are already talking about raising the bar for next year. As for Smith’s film ‘The Red Grifo’; “So far the film has been selected to screen at two film festivals that we entered in London and Charlotte, which in itself is a great honor, and right now we’re waiting to hear back from a few others.” // VintageAutoTV
