The 2nd annual Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance kicks off the first weekend of May at the iconic golf resort in North Carolina. Like most collector car shows, Pinehurst spreads the event over a weekend with the culmination being the Concours d’Elegance competition on Sunday.
It’s the prelude event on Saturday that you might find a little different, the Fairway Drive.
The first year, they staged over one hundred Corvettes and Porsches in a ‘battlefield’ formation. Leading each brigade of cars from across the region were examples owned by collector Rick Hendrick (Corvette) and Porsche collector Bob Ingram.Ford Mustang will face off with the 2013 winner of the Pinehurst Fairway Drive: Porsche
With rows of Porsches and Corvettes in position on the fairway, the battle actually took place on the putting green. That’s right, Corvette and Porsche owners faced off in a putting contest. The side with the best score was declared the winner.
The Mustang is fitting rival as the original Pony car is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. The real winners are the spectators who will get to see a great cross section of classic Porsches and Mustangs, specialty and current production models.
“The beauty of Pinehurst, and that North Carolina’s heritage is really golf, motor sports, and the armed services, we think going forward with the setting, the organization, and frankly the demographics, are very positive for this becoming a destination in this hobby every year,” says event chairman Bob Ingram.
The Pinehurst Fairway Drive is May 3rd, from 9 am to noon. For more information about the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance visit www.pinehurstconcours.com
